Approach | Aim Higher

Think bigger, faster

Exceptional growth doesn’t result from incremental thinking. Bold aspirations, creativity and courageous action are needed —but contrary to some beliefs, this doesn’t imply more risk.

Aim Higher is our approach to clarify “what to do” after establishing ELT-Board alignment on an ambitious purpose and direction. You believe that your organization is capable of more, and your goal is to involve and unify your team and organization around this higher imperative.

Refocusing the urgency to act

Strategic imperatives frequently encounter two types of challenges. First, loss of momentum over time; second, imbalance in the leadership table between those who ‘think big’ and those who ‘get things done’. Bias toward immediate action is an attribute for success in operations, but when this mindset dominates, it can lead to incremental, non-strategic gains.

Setting your sights

Successful teams revel in diversity of thought without being weighed down by conflict. They translate myriad viewpoints into a coherent story. We help to navigate this process, providing outside-in perspective and a proprietary team coaching method. We achieve what is typically considered a paradox – heightened levels of creativity, firmly grounded by reality.

Bolder initiatives, less risk

A trade-off that we help to avoid is goal audaciousness against delivery risk. With a tailored facilitation process and analytical decision support, we help to hone in on a short list of implementation goals and activities that will bring the most value. Together, we and your team rapidly identify and mitigate frictions such as organizational dis-incentives, scarce resources and dependencies between departments. We also help to cement a sponsorship coalition within the leadership team and the Board.

Outcomes include:

  • Bold aspiration reflected in strategic initiative(s)
  • Board-ELT alignment on targets and trade-offs
